Day 7, 11th hour
It's been a fun adventure, since it was a new year I wanted to challenge myself with something I'd always wanted to take steps toward but never gave it my full attention. There is never a perfect time to real diving into a new hobby/project and January proved to be no exception, my co-worker had an accident that meant a lot of in-hours work landed with me, but also ALL the Out of Hours rota also landed with me.
I had only dabbled in using Love2D beforehand but it was a framework that had some familiarity which and I knew that it did the basics well, which I felt would be a good start for this Jam.
Challacade has some fantastic recent tutorials that were a great help in me refreshing my knowledge and expanding it further. Playlist here.
What didn't I get time to do?
- Enemy movements /pathing
- Door and keys (Like the original Booty)
- Footstep sounds alter with location and alternate
- Increase the Map size (to be completed once all other things were in place).
I was frustrated to not get the moving enemies, but I run out of time to debug the issue.
However I decided to review my task list and focus on the progress I did tick off.
Load map | Add Walking sound effects | Add Collectable sound |
Character Movement | Add BGMusic | Display Score |
Character sprites/animation | Toggle sound/fx | Game Over Screen/score Recap |
Loading/Start Screen | instruction text | Add in enemies /collision |
Timer for oxygen | Add in collectables | Game Over Reset |
Displayer Oxygen /Timer | Add in Collectable collision | Export to HTML & itch |
When I look at the stuff I achieved I'm actually pretty chuffed

Great job! Happy that the jam helped you focus on getting things done. I am thinking of relaxing the 7-day limit of the jam even more; the whole thing should be about making games an enjoyable and chill experience, not rushing to a deadline. Cheers!
To be fair I started on the 17th, so kind of halved the available time I had to play with, always did like a challenge.
Hopefully with new skills under my belt the next Jam will be easier & more relaxed.
